Svetozara Alexandrova was born in Stara Zagora in 1980. She graduated with a master´s degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. She has received several awards for her work, including "Recognition Award" Red Carpet for young art Austria (2014), the Gesellschafter ART.AWARD Art.Award Germany (2009) and the Gaudenz B.Ruf Award for New Bulgarian Art (2007). Since 2000 the artist has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Denmark, Turkey, Serbia, Switzerland and the Netherlands, Germany and the USA.
She lives in Bulgaria and Germany.
My artistic practice is grounded in aesthetics of existence in a commercial society. I am interested in social critical themes like gender identity, fashion trends, political and social relations and ecology. Employing images and narratives that are embedded in the collective cultural imagination I create new conditions for interpretation. The conflicts and taboos in the society I am representing with ironic and sarcasm. My works are implemented in different Medias and techniques such as paintings, photographs, objects or site specific installations.
